The Spotify Cheat Code

Spotify can now build a playlist from a prompt. The trick is knowing the prompt. First, fill in your Music Profile (below). All the prompts update automatically. You'll then copy that prompt into Spotify. Remember, you need Spotify Premium on the mobile app.

This works whether you hired a DJ or not.
If you have a DJ, hand them these playlists and you'll be set.
If you have a friend running the music, this is what you give to them.

*Before you start: For this feature, you need Spotify Premium. It's in beta testing (in English and in limited countries), so they limit how many prompts you can run in a stretch. Spotify also leans on the listening history of your account, so you may need to make small changes. The AI is good, not perfect.

Spotify's AI only runs in the app on your phone, so you'll build here and prompt there. If you need this info on another device, use your save code to access it there.

Step one: your music profile

Fill this in once. Every prompt below updates as you type, and it all saves automatically.

Step two: your prompts, moment by moment

How to run a prompt in Spotify

Open Spotify on your phone. Tap Create at the bottom, then choose Prompted Playlist (Beta). Paste your prompt right there.

Check that Set Updates says Doesn't Update. It should already, and it's the one you want, because it keeps your wedding playlist exactly the way you built it. You can still add or swap songs by hand any time.

More questions? This is still in beta, so Spotify's latest instructions are on their help page.

Step three: the fix-it prompts

The first playlist is rarely the final one. Run any of these right after to steer it. This is exactly what I do in my head all night long. Click to copy.
